Good morning all!

We've had some very interesting products covered this morning, including the official launch of the preview unit from last year, the 'AppleTV'.

iPhoneiPhone...

This is out of release order but firstly I have to talk about the iPhone because it's just so ridiculously impressive. This perfect fusion between a widescreen iPod, phone and handheld device features a massive 3.5", 160ppi multi-touch display (no fiddly stylus/no chunky buttons!) that looks amazing, a proximity sensor that will pause your music etc automatically when you bring it to your ear and Wifi/Bluetooth integration.

I want one.

It just does it all running a special version of OSX: Movies, music, photos, personal organising, 2.0 megapixel camera, web comms, tel comms, visual voicemail, email, google maps, and it's my personal opinion that it leaves something like the Blackberry for dead.

Two models have been announced, a 4GB and an 8GB unit, priced at US$499 and US$599 with a '2 year contract' respectively. (Expect different pricing releases in Australia depending on distribution models.)

Shipping to the US in June of 2007 and slated in 2008 for Asia we unfortunately have a bit of a wait on our hands to get them!

Apple TVAppleTV...

Moving onto the AppleTV release. As a refresher from the last update this device allows you to stream video and music wirelessly from your computer (or directly from the hard drive on the AppleTV) to your home TV using a new standard, Wireless 802.11n. The AppleTV is Mac and PC compatible.

Finally Apple quietly released a revision of the Airport Extreme Base Station which was not covered during the Keynote. With a sleek design overhaul the new unit is listed with a 5x speed increase over its predecessor using 802.11n. In addition to the increase of speed, the range is significantly enhanced and you can now connect external hard drives for network storage.

"802.11n adds technology called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), a signal processing and smart antenna technique for transmitting multiple data streams through multiple antennas. The result? Up to five times the performance and up to twice the range compared to the earlier 802.11g standard."
