Well.....pretty much as the Apple rumour sites predicted it was a quiet morning with just a few things released and unusual previews into the 2007 year....

 

iPod Nano...

We've got revised Nano iPods first up, with the re-introduction of colours into the Nano series as per previous iPod Mini styles. Sizes now cover 2GB, 4GB and 8GB for the the mid-range iPod.

Black has been reserved for the 8GB model alone while the 2GB model is only available in silver. The screens are reportedly 40% brighter, the units now house a new battery that has (up to) a 24 hour life. Games are also available for iPods with screens. Price reductions are also in effect....

iPod Shuffle...

The Shuffle has undergone a complete facelift. It's basically half the size its old chunky white flash drive form factor. The new model is effectively a clip arrangement and is extremely compact.

iPod (Video)...

Not wanting to be left out of the picture, the full strength iPod (video) has been upgraded to an 80GB on the top model along with a 60% screen brightness and battery enhancements in all capacities.

iTunes V7 / Movie Store!

Steve Jobs also announced the release of the iTunes Movie Store, which is slated for release in the US now but won't actually hit Australian shores until sometime in 2007. iTunes 7, with some funky new features, has also been released and is available for download here:

'iTV' Prototype...

Last but not least was the preview release of a piece of hardware called, for the moment, 'iTV'. (That name is already under heavy copyright and Jobs was quick to admit this is only a prototype title.) 'iTV' is effectively media streaming device that can hook straight into your screen/set top box/receiver.

'iTV' Spec Breakdown:

  • No power brick
  • 802.11
  • USB 2.0
  • Ethernet
  • HDMI connector for all new big-screen flat panel TVs
  • Component video (RGB)
  • Analog audio RCA jacks
  • Optical audio
  • Controlled with the familiar white remote

Release dates are reported to be around Q1 2007 with a US$ price of $299.
