Good morning folks!

We've had a huge raft of releases overnight with the launch of brand new iMacs, an overhaul of the Mac Mini line up (now with a built-in server option), a unibody White MacBook with some juicy spec bumps, a new Airport Extreme and Time Capsule, a new 'Magic' multi-touch mouse and a re-released Apple Remote. It's raining updates!

iMac

iMac 21.5" and 27" LED...

We'll start off with the highly anticipated (and long overdue) revision of the iMac range. WIth this particular release Apple has built on existing design strengths of the previous iMac offering and then added brilliant new features that have combined to make a machine that really blows everything else out of the desktop-based water.

Apple are tagging the new iMacs with the line of 'Looks sharp. Thinks fast.' and they're not kidding. With the introduction of the new quad-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 Nehalem processors in the 27" these machines are at least 2 times faster than their 24" predecessors. And while we have the usually expected upgrades to things like processor speed, memory and hard drive size, Apple have also kindly presented us with a very tasty upgrade to the graphics capabilities in the range, a wireless mouse/keyboard as a standard AND an SD Card Slot.

This upgrade fits in very nicely with the most obvious overhaul of the iMac being the display and additional changes have been made 'above the hood' to create thiner, lighter and visually stunning models. Edge to edge glass beautifully frames a huge 21.5" or 27" of screen real estate in jaw dropping High Def LED goodness. And while Apple could have chosen to stretch the out the very sexy 1920x1080 resolution of the 21.5", they've gone above and beyond in giving us a massive 78% increase of 2560x1440 pixels for the 27" models.

In a surprise move Apple have also chosen to keep the 20" LCD model available at this stage for people needing an even lower cost alternative to the new technology, and have added a small speed-bump while in the neighbourhood.

MacBook

MacBook White Unibody...

We've been waiting for these guys too.. and there's been no disappointment in the release. Transitioning in line with the MacBook Pro Unibody aluminium design, the new White MacBook still retains the polycarbonate shell material but is thinner, lighter and now has a glass multi-touch trackpad.

We again see updates to the processor with a speed bump to a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and also an increased 250GB hard drive onboard as standard. Round this out with the slimline 13" screen, now also LED based, and an updated battery touting 7 hours worth of 'get up and go' on a single charge, and we have a portable workhorse that is more than making the grade.

And the price is amazing! - while they couldn't quite break the $1000 barrier, Apple has come very, very close!

Mac Mini

Mac Mini...
(Would you like a server with that?)

Next out of the upgrade swag we have the now-not-so-humble Mac Mini range. With options on either a 2.26GHz or 2.53GHz processor, 2GB or 4GB of memory and either a 160GB or 320GB hard drive, the surprise starter out of the gate was the Mac Mini with a Snow Leopard Server spin on things.

For those looking at a low cost server option, this particular model delivers at an unbelievably low price. Specially designed, this model comes with 2x500GB hard drives, 4GB of memory, a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a copy of Snow Leopard Server Unlimited in one neatly compacted package. (Of note here also is the removal of the optical drive as the unit has been designed with two individual hard drives for RAID etc, but this can be overcome by the addition of an external USB MacBook Air Superdrive.)

Even without the addition of Snow Leopard Server, which would normally be $349, this would be an amazingly well priced machine. With it bundled in however, it's a low cost server show stopper that is very, very hard to beat. We used to be pretty chuffed about a sub one thousand desktop - now we've got a sub-$700 offering!

Mac Mini
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB / 160GB / Superdrive

Mac Mini
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB / 320GB / Superdrive

Time

Time Capsule...

With either a 1TB or 2TB option now available, the new Time Capsule is also a fully featured 802.11n Wi-Fi base station with dual band support, working simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands for the most efficient performance and best range available. Additional updates also include refinements to the way it interfaces with Time Machine to make automated backup a reported 60% faster than previous generations.

Airport Extreme

Airport Extreme...

Magic Mouse

Multi-touch Magic Mouse...

With the same Multi-Touch technology that was first released on the iPhone this mouse is going to be a fantastic addition to the 'Macs are just easy' fold. Click anywhere, scroll in any direction and swipe through images smoothly just by touching the seamless top casing. Working via Bluetooth there are no cables to mess up your workspace either.

Apple Remote
