Apple Inc, a company that has always revolved around software development has been at it again, redefining the creative world in which we live. This morning the team at Apple have announced major updates to Final Cut Studio, Logic Studio, Logic Express and Final Cut Server.

Final Cut Studio...

The new Final Cut Studio HD has over 100 new features and includes new versions of Final Cut Pro 7, Motion 4, Soundtrack 3, Color 1.5 and Compressor 3.5.

Final Cut Pro 7 remains a cut above the rest:

• New ProRes codecs now supporting nearly any workflow. ProRes Proxy enables offline and mobile editing at low bandwidth, ProRes LT allows general editing,and ProRes 4444 gives you the highest quality editing power and visual effects imaginable.
• Easy Export allows you to continue working while your projects are rendered in the background for delivery to any Apple Device, YouTube, DVD or Blu-ray.
• iChat Theatre support enables you to collaborate in real time, sharing timelines or individual source clips with iChat users the world over - EVEN if they don't have a copy of Final Cut Pro
• New Speed Change tools give you the power to speed up or slow down a clip without affecting the surrounding clips
• Alpha Transitions makes it even easier to create dramatic transitions with moving mattes
• Native AVC-Intra support for the latest in high quality Panasonic cameras

Motion 4 expands its easy to use animation tools so editors can create everything from basic titles to amazing motion graphics.

• Enhancing 3D compositions is now faster than ever thanks to the new customisable features adding point and spot lights to cast realistic shadows or turn any shape, video plane or paint stroke into a reflective surface
• Adjust the depth of field within a 3D canvas. Highlight or de-emphasise objects by easily defining a range of focus, by highlighting a single object or using a number of objects to create a racking focus effect

Soundtrack Pro 3 includes a bunch of new, incredible audio editing tools.

• Voice Level Match extracts volume information from the vocal content in one clip and allows you to apply it to other clips without having to alter any other audio content
• Improved File Editor includes new tools to allow sophisticated edits and fine tune volume adjustments by targeting specific frequencies
• NEW Advanced Time Stretch feature enables audio to be stretched or compressed with amazing precision using three Apple-designed algorithms, or others available as third party plug-ins

Color 1.5 now offers enhanced integration with Final Cut Pro. Send any complex sequence directly to Color from Final Cut Pro with no preparation.

• Now works with a greater range of effects and sequences from Final Cut Pro and integrated workflow
• 4K support allows you to grade and render at full quality, supporting native 4K files from cameras such as RED ONE, and output directly to ProRes for HD or DPX for film
• Enhanced support for new formats including AVC-Intra, XDCAM 422 and ProRes 4444 for grading with the maximum amount of colour information

Compressor 3.5 makes encoding and delivering in multiple formats even easier

• Automatically detect QuickTime settings and create Easy Export templates on the desktop, automating specific Compressor actions
• New sharing options makes it easy to publish to any Apple Device, YouTube and MobileMe
• Menu Templates and preset encoding, makes it quick and simple to create a Blu-Ray disc or a DVD directly from Compressor

Logic Studio...

The new Logic Studio was also unveiled this morning, showcasing major updates to Logic Pro and MainStage.

Logic Pro 9

• New Amp Designer recreates 25 vintage and modern amp heads in amazing detail with matching controls and paired speaker cabinets, emulating the sound and emotion of running a guitar through a real tube amp
• Guitar players can also design their own dream rig, by mixing and matching 25 amps, 25 speaker cabinets and 3 mics, that can be freely positioned in 3D space
• Pedalboard adds a collection of 30 guitar stompbox pedals that can be uniquely arranged producing a huge variety of creative effects

Flex Time

• A new collection of tools giving you the power to quickly manipulate timing and tempo of recorded audio - including vocals and instruments - without the tedious task of slicing and editing
• Audio Quantize can instantly adjust or fix the timing of an entire performance, aligning notes and beats to a musical grid
• Varispeed enables you to to slow down then speed up a multi-trace production to assist recording difficult parts
• Flex Time also makes it possible to move recorded tracks between Logic projects and match them together even if the tracks were recorded at different tempos.

MainStage 2

• Allows you to use all the instruments and effects within Logic Studio and turn your Mac into a full live performance rig
• New Playback plugin gives you a backing band, enabling you to perform with pre-recorded audio such and drums, sound effects etc, which can be set to play while performing live
• New Loopback plugin allows you to record, layer and jam with your own performance

Logic Studio also includes the new Soundtrack Pro 3 discussed above, providing simple integration with Final Cut Pro.

Inline with the Logic Studio update, Logic Express also received a makeover, featuring the power of Logic Pro, with an amazing collection of Amps, cabinets, and effect pedals. Also sporting the new production tools and Flex Time outlined above.

Final Cut Server...

In the mix earlier today was the release of a revised Final Cut Server 1.5 assisting you in working faster and more effectively than ever.

• You can now create edit proxies automatically using the new ProRes 422 Proxy format, offering high quality files at greatly reduced file sizes.
• Lets you organise your Productions using a folder-style heirachy, similar to the way in which you would organise your finder.
• Improved search performance with a redesigned database architecture, reducing search time and optimizing perfomance
• You are now able to define different browse proxy formats for different source media with a choice of output settings supported by the new Compressor
• Support for metadata in Audio - Server now parses and displays metadata from AIFF, WAV,CAF,M4A, SDII and AAC, so you can now search for audio files using any metadata
• Active Directory Support allowing you to assign Final Cut Server permissions to Active Directory and Open Directory
